Mike Barnett Professor of Science Education at Boston College
Mike Barnett is a professor of science education and technology in the Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College. He was recognized as professor of the year in 2012 for teaching and outreach excellence by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for his work with urban schools and his highly regarded course “Science for Future Presidents”. His research focuses on issues of social and environmental justice in educational settings. Grounded in an intervention educational approach his projects strive to broaden participation in the sciences by engaging youth and teachers in learning about food justice through Geographic Information Systems and hydroponics, learning about automation, and how to create transdisciplinary learning environments by bridging the performing arts and the sciences.
