A big step into the world of Entrepreneurship

Last July 9th-18th, we organized an exclusive Summer Bootcamp for Young Entrepreneurs in the vibrant heart of Palo Alto, CA. with the participation of 8 students coming from England, Germany, Belgium and Turkey.

 

This immersive program provided an unprecedented opportunity for high school students to discover the future, right in tech’s home turf – Silicon Valley. Our learners also had the chance to breathe in the unique academia-filled aura of Stanford University.

 

Our students also had the opportunity to peek inside the workings of tech giants like Google, Apple, Twitter, Intel, and Facebook. We were also extremely lucky to schedule meetings with several thought-leaders, CEOs, and entrepreneurs.

Essential Skills Discussed at the Summer Bootcamp

At the Summer Bootcamp for Young Entrepreneurs, we not only introduced students to the exciting world of entrepreneurship, technology, and sustainable business, but we also emphasized essential skills for their personal and professional development. Here are the key skills we focused on during the program:

Leadership

Strong leadership is the backbone of successful businesses and teams. We aimed to instill leadership qualities in our students, teaching them effective communication, decision-making, and the ability to inspire and motivate others.

Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving

These two skills are invaluable in the entrepreneurial journey. Students were introduced to complex issues within the industry and encouraged to think critically and develop solutions for real-world challenges.

Business Acumen

Understanding the intricacies of running a business is crucial for aspiring entrepreneurs. We introduced students to marketing, finance, operations, and strategy, providing them with a strong foundation for future ventures.

Networking

Building a strong professional network can offer invaluable resources and support. During the program, students interacted with CEOs, entrepreneurs, industry leaders and with each other to appreciate the power of networking and cultivate meaningful connections.

Adaptability and Resilience

Every entrepreneur faces setbacks, and the ability to adapt and bounce back is crucial. Students learned the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and resilience through challenges faced during the course.

Time Management

Effective time management is a vital skill for anyone in a leadership role. Students learned the essentials of time management and productivity, ensuring they make the most of every opportunity while balancing multiple responsibilities.

CHRISTINE CUNNINGHAM

Professor of Practice of Education and Engineering at Penn State University

 

Dr. Christine Cunningham is a Professor of Practice of Education and Engineering at Penn State University. Her work focuses on making engineering more relevant, accessible, and inclusive, especially for underserved and underrepresented populations. She does this by creating researched-based engineering curricula for PreK-8 children and their educators. Her book, Engineering in Elementary STEM Education, describes her groundbreaking work. Previously, Cunningham was the Founding Director of Engineering is Elementary. Cunningham has received a number of awards; in 2017 her work was recognized with the prestigious Harold W. McGraw Jr. Prize in Education.

Biography

Chris Rogers earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at Stanford University, where he worked with Professor John Eaton on his thesis on particle motion in a boundary layer flow. Rogers joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tufts School of Engineering in 1989. He is involved in a number of research areas, including particle-laden flows (a continuation of his thesis), telerobotics and controls, the slurry flows in chemical-mechanical planarization, the engineering of musical instruments, measuring flame shapes of couch fires, measuring fruit-fly locomotion, and engineering education (kindergarten to college). At Tufts, Rogers has exercised his strong commitment to teaching by exploring a number of new directions, including teaching robotics with LEGO bricks and teaching manufacturing by building musical instruments. His teaching work extends to the elementary school level, where he talks with over 1,000 teachers around the world every year on methods of introducing young children to engineering.
